We Serve

Through Brightstar’s services and solutions, we touch almost every aspect of a wireless device somewhere in its lifecycle. We distribute product and manage inventory. Marcelo Claure

Marcelo Claure was named Sprint President and CEO in August 2014 and has served on the Sprint board of directors since January 2014. Prior to this, he was CEO of Brightstar, a company he founded in 1997 and grew from a small Miami-based distributor into a global business with more than $10 billion in gross revenue for the year ended 2013.

Under his leadership, Brightstar became the largest global wireless distributor and a leading services company for the telecommunications industry. As of August 2014, it had a local presence in more than 50 countries, on six continents, and delivered its products and services to more than 90,000 customers in over 125 countries.

In 2013, Forbes Magazine listed Brightstar as the 55th largest privately held company in the U.S. Brightstar was also recognized as the largest Hispanic-owned business in the United States from 2007 through 2009 and again from 2011 through 2013.

Marcelo has earned international recognition for his entrepreneurial skills and innovative spirit. He has received the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award and was made a lifetime member of Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year Hall of Fame. The World Economic Forum, a highly-respected global organization which brings together the best and the brightest to focus on improving the state of the world, recognized Marcelo’s talent and named him a Young Global Leader. In 2013, the South Florida Hispanic Chamber of Commerce honored Marcelo with a Lifetime Achievement Award and Miami Dade County Mayor, Carlos Gimenez, proclaimed March 22, 2013, “Marcelo Claure Day.”

Marcelo is a member of the Wall Street Journal CEO Council, serves as Vice Chairman of Barcelona’s Mobile World Capital Advisory Board and is a past member of the CTIA board of directors and executive committee.

Marcelo is the owner of the Bolivian soccer team, Bolivar, the country’s most popular team. In February of 2014, together with David Beckham and Simon Fuller, Marcelo became a principal partner in Miami Beckham United, a venture to establish a Major League Soccer (MLS) franchise in Miami. Marcelo also serves on the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) Committee for Fair Play and Social Responsibility.

Marcelo holds a Bachelor of Science in Economics and Finance and an honorary Doctorate of Commercial Science from Bentley University in Massachusetts.



In October 2014, a Brightstar subsidiary acquired a majority interest in Beetel Teletech Limited as part of a joint venture with Bharti Enterprises to bring the latest mobile technologies and services to the Indian market. Beetel is a leading company in the distribution and sale of mobile handsets, communication and media devices, enterprise solutions and IT products in India.


eSecuritel provides wireless carriers, retailers and dealers with protection and replacement programs for new, used or prepaid wireless devices against loss, theft, accidental damage and mechanical malfunction. It also provides replacement programs to cover every stage of the handset lifecycle, including buyer’s remorse, manufacturer’s warranty, handset protection, extended warranty and retention programs. eSecuritel was acquired in 2011.


Brightstar acquired the Commerce & Service Division of SoftBank Group Corp. in April 2014. The new company, SoftBank C&S, is a leading distributor of information and communications technology hardware and software products, as well as mobile accessories, in Japan. The new subsidiary is located in Tokyo and makes Brightstar a global leader in mobile accessory distribution and services.


In January 2014, SoftBank Group Corp. completed the transaction to invest $1.26 billion in Brightstar, enabling Brightstar to expand its scale and further its position as a leading provider of services for the wireless industry. SoftBank Group Corp. has investments in nearly 800 subsidiaries or affiliates across the world in many industries, and chose Brightstar for its leading position in the wireless ecosystem.

SoftBank Group Corp. was established in 1981 by its current Chairman & CEO Masayoshi Son and has based its business growth on the Internet.
